Punjabi Films Roundup 2013

Year 2013 will end up as a year in which most number of Punjabi films were released. The year opened up bad with much anticipated Saadi Love Story by acclaimed writer turned director Dheeraj Rattan going down the box office. Even though it had a stellar star cast it flopped.
     Later mood was revived up by tun mera 22 mein tera 22 and it put up a decent show and turned out to be a average hit.
   Pooja kiven aa nose dived just like her singing career. A film which I hesitate to even call a film was you n me and it has to be worse then a CD movie. Only two people who watched it were producer and director.
     Stupid 7 was another stupid film . Same was with sajjan god knows why unprofessional people cheat producers with money.
      Lucky di Unlucky Story was less then average and then came Jatt and Juliet 2 that set cash registers ringing.
  Bikker Bai sentimental didnt made its investments.
Jatts in golmal and naughty jatts were successful.
      Young Malang was  surprisingly fresh storytelling . It was typical Punjabi youth oriented movie but had some good characterizations , it also faired well at box office And probably give some breathing space to new producers.
Ashiqui Not Allowed , RSVP, HEER N HERO,JUST YOU N ME , ISHQ GARARI, OYE HOYE PYAAR HO GAYAA were all flop
     Bhaji in problem was another below average affair.
  The most disgusting movies that didn't even see single day were Rabb toh sona ishaq , risky munde,

The better times of punjabi cinema

With start of Double di  Trouble a film by subash ghai is anything but a confirmation that better days of Punjabi cinema are here.
    With successful new movies like Jatt boys business of 9 crores ,young malang 13 crores, it is now proved that content if served right can bring on crowd to cinemas.

The Unprofessional of punjabi cinema

The rise of Punjabi film industry is phenomenon and it has lead to eager investors and eager film makers . But it has also  turned, some of the most respected names in the industry, to become vultures. Their behaviour is unprofessional and cheap. With every hit they increase their price by 5 to 10 lakh but they do not decrease with every flop.
   Some of the comedians are now charging double the amount of a lead actor but that's not all , they virtually blackmail the producer by not giving them exact dates and their word has no value. I will reveal more details later sometime,  but these guys are surely taking Punjabi movies to a dangerous position, they mislead gullible producers while knowing that no film is a hit just due to them.
         In time they will be surely remembered as people who lead to fall of this industry. Its high time for producers to understand no comedian has caliber to make a movie hit and by paying too much fee they are sure to loose money at the end . So any new producer who want to make a Punjabi film should study it well and don't fall into the pit which every second producer falls in.

Best of luck a Hit

Another flick starring Gippi Grewal and Binnu Dhillon introducing Jazzy B. It has been criticised for having slow pace and a very very bad screenplay and cheesy dialogues.
But it managed to earn profit over seas . In Punjab it suffered from political conflict as mamla gadbad was released by company said to be of top minister of the state. And they litteraly forces out the film out of single screens by political pressure. That's a common Assertion  but lacking any clear evidence . Still film hold its ground and producers now can get good sleep.

Fer mamla gadbad gadbad - Review

Its time for a review and  latest punjabi movie fer mamla gadbad gadbad is this weeks release, so let's review it.

This movie is made by the duo RIMPY PRINCE who are pioneers in music videos and who were making music videos since the day you were born. Their supermacy in music videos remains unchallenged but movie making is a different ball game altogether.

So lets come to review, unlike other reviewers ill list my rating at the very start I give it 5 from 10.   Now if you care to read further here is complete review.

The film starts with a song , which is not even upto mark of a good music video. The character introduction is just average  and lame like other punjabi movies , slow motion stylish enteries. We see that roshan prince is a con ,  a wanna be actor who wants to be a punjabi film star. His friend Ranjit Rana is a wanna be director. They only care about gathering money for their film, and they go to any length , even becoming fake witnesses in court cases. And main plot triggers when roshan mistakingly breaks marriage of japji khera due to an error. Now plot converts to revenge by japji khera against roshan prince.

What happens next is something  you can know by watching the film. YES film is watchable. So ill jump to analysis. The directors surely were working on a tight budget , which is visible in the scenes. There is absolutely no class to the appearences. Every location looks like a background of a cheap ass music video. The quality of film never looks like a film but a documentary video.

   The locations show absolutely zero art direction, the story and screenplay turn out to be average . Whenever you get bored a song comes to give a relief. Performances are good, japji khera looks gorgeous until and unless you realize she is married lolz.

     Overall paisa vasool but not exceptional .

Jatt and juliet 2 Blockbuster opening

It's not a surprise jatt and juliet 2 has opened to house full theatres . And it will be no surprise if it fetches an opening of 1 cr in India and 2 cr abroad. Will be posting box office news as they are available

REVIEW - Daddy Cool Munde Fool

Many readers have requested to review movies on my blog but rather than reviewing on first day I review when I find the time, so review may be useful to some but not all.

I had great expactations from this movie but it fails miserabely. The producers have got a hit and investment back in bank, but as an ententainer this movie is just like a carcass of carry on jatta or jatt and juliet.

The first half of movie is unbearable with most of the time spent in slow character introductions with idiotic background music. There is no character arc and no character development. Both lead actors are like robots eho fall in love with first sight, inredibly both brothers fall for both sisters and insaine as it may seem their father falls in for the girls mother !!!!!!!!

Dude you couldnt be more screwed to develop such a idiotic plot. Perhaps you need a brain to develop something more interesting.

Sadda Haq a BlockBuster

The banning of a film usually does the opposite effect on film outcome. Sada Haq although banned by the government of punjab, has proved to be a record breaking blockbuster in UK ,USA,Europe and Australia. In Uk and Usa alone it has broken records of all time by collecting 1.5 crores in its first week. And will do so for next 2 weeks and might become beat performing punjabi movie of all time abroad.

Bikkar bai sentimental starts good

Bikkar Bai Sentimental is doing good in its initial days of release, but surely not a blockbuster still its surely going to its cost in first week, rest we will know from tomorrow after word of mouth publicity goes with it or goes against it.

Daddy Cool Munde Fool a Superhit in Making

After release of some of the worst punjabi movies in history and some really bad performing ones like sajjan , stupid 7, you n me etc comes a well made film with loads of fun and laughter Daddy Cool Munde Fool.
The movie earned 3.15 crores in its first weekend aka 3 days, world wide. Its running house full till today so its total gross will reach to 10-15 crore lifetime earning making it 2nd super hit after singh vs kaur .
Of course before some eager investors or income tax officials eager to raid producers , they got to know that producers stand out to get half of the amount only.

You n Me watched only by you n me

  Today is release of yet another Punjabi Film by Batra Productions. It is sad to see batra banner licking dust by releasing such projects and in last two years they have released nothing worth watching.

        The film is directed by some vicky j, featuring totally new artists including the producer in main lead. So what are chances of this film making even 10 percent of initial cost? NIL.

  The film didnt get any cinema to launch it and few who did no one gave it more than one show. And that too because oroduction house itself has purchased 10 tickets to keep show going.

   Whats the point in making a srupid movie ? If you think you can make a D grade movie in 20-30 lakhs and expect it to earn millions than please do yourself a favour and keep your money safe. Whats the point of spending money and then get rediculed and laughed at.

  This is not what you call film, its vcd which you can buy for Rs 50 and Not something you would pay Rs150 to watch in a theatre.

The poster is ummm... uninteresting . It looks like a telefilm , the guys could'nt even make a convincing poster and movie? Well as well wisher of punjabi cinema I want every film to be a hit , but no one should expect that by making some low buget movie he gets rich by gullible punjabi cinema lovers. But ill watch it for sure. I hope its worth it.

Bikkar Bai Sentimental

This seems to be a good movie with its trailor it seems to be a  good action comedy. The leading stars in the movie is Jassi Jasraj (the guy who became famous after bashing yoyo honey singh in his ht song), priti gingyaani (mohabattein fame.!?).

It also has to be the fastest movie made as far my sources tell me , from start to finish 3 months flat. So lets see if this movie is as good as à kfc chicken.

From promos and events in which lead character is seen holding a manje da pawa (triple baseball bat) i am very sure he is one son of soil commited to remove vulgarity and promote Punjabi Culture in a rightful manner.

Pooja. Kiven aa - a question nobody cared for

Release of film pooja kiven aa may be a bad news for its producers. But it proved to be a blessing in disguise for love birds who like to get hanky panky in a corner seat of a theatre because they were the only ones who purchased tickets. But damn those clauses in constitution which provides liberty to cinema owners to cancel a show if occupency is less then 8.

With this i hope producers learn that pooja jiven vi aa. Nobody cares. And hope producer learned its better to gift a big daimond rather than a. Movie. A daimond last forever while movie lasts a day or two.

SADDA HAQ Aethe Rakh

Sadda Haq releases worldwide on 5 April and probably is one great film that will break records atleast in UK , USA, CANADA.

Thanks to Govt. of India for giving it more publicity by banning it. The sensor did its job and gave u certificate but alas Govt in centre is of a party that has been actively involved in igniting the issue.

Overseas response is expected to be phenomenal because most people living their migrated abroad during the dark times this film is based on.

Kudos to the producer and director because it takes gut to do this kind of thing. Its Sadda Haq to remember the past abd learn lessons from it. So do watch this one.

EPIC TITLES

Epic in the sense that they are being made from years but yet to see the face of light.

Releasing tomorrow to a cinema not near you

Thats all i can say about a film which couldn't get more than two shows on its opening day.

Tomorrow is release of yet another Punjabi Film by former singing sensation Miss Pooja titled POOJA KIVEN AA. But frankly speaking were the producers sniffing come or something? As if her star power was not evident from her debut at height of her career.

I respect the lady mind you. But whats the point of making a movie in 3 months and releasing it asap without even making some TRP. Lesson to be learnt here is that its. Not raining money at box office dudes, you better do your homework rather than jumping the. Bandwagon.

Upcoming Punjabi Films

Poster Analysis-

JATT AIRWAYS - The poster of upcoming film jatt airways is out. They say don't judge a book by its cover but same cannot be said about a movie poster.

But a poster is the last thing on mind for Punjabi Film makers. Some of the least creative posters can be found here easy with exception of film Mirza .Just take few profile shots of all actors and place them side by side in order of their poster value and you are done.

So poster of jatt airways is just ordinary , it is made by the same director who delivered a film last year that broke the tide of happiness on which punjabi movie buffs were surfing on after the huge success of jatt and juliet and carry on jatta. The easily forgettable sirphire.

It's surprising to see an epic failure to churn out another flick so soon.
The main lead guy is Alfaaz who can be seen with his beer belly shining out and expressionless pose. Binu Dhillon and BN Sharma could really be the only people to save the crew if this airbus takes a nosedive. Lets wait for its music which has to songs from YoYo Honey singh

Money, Fun and Action

Intriguing title isn't it ? But this title describes mentality of some new budding producers in film , like a director they actually perceive that Lights, Camera and Action spoken on shoot are actually synonyms and think that movie making needs only money and its a fun job with hotties around and its they who should say Action on the set.

No matter how wise a producer is its almost certain that 7 out of ten think that film making is very easy, they think that t a movie is collection of scenes and they can go ahead and make scene themselves and force the director to shoot it their way.

These kinds of producers are bound to end up with mutilated story, random changes to the script and a piece of crap rather than a spell binding story. They fail to respect the art of movie making and end up with total loss at box office.

And then they blame people involved in making the film. So what should a new producer do?

First of all they should ask themselves that if they had to make a dish and have no idea how to make it, they would keep a chef , simple isn't it? Ok now what if they keep on instructing the chef to add ingredients to their will and he can add nothing without their instruction ? Yes answer is that they will get the same tasteless dish they would have cooked themselves so there is no point in keeping the chef.

Yes movie making seems easy , yes you are right that certain scene in a movie made laugh and some other made you cry, but that does not mean you can make a movie.

So what should producer do? Of course i am not asking him to be an ATM. But what he should do maximum is appoint a man who can handle his money and check on daily costs. And above all if you cannot trust a script or the director you should simply stay away. Movie making is not for light hearted people .

Upcoming punjabi films

The most recent film awaited is "Pooja kiven aa" , i would like to clarify its most recent film to be released that is 3 days from today , i dont mean its MOST AWAITED, rather i wonder if someone on this planet awaits a movie of miss pooja.


Unlike most expected trait Miss Pooja's ainging talent has rather declined more , where singers are expected to improve everyday .

And so is her acting, so its high time miss pooja you realize that you could never sing and god gave you your best time.

Bollywood actors card scams

I am posting this because a lot of inspiring actors have been recently cheated off their money.

So anyone who is serious about entering the industry should know that some very credible people with their original cards , website etc are arranging auditions , some say they are making a serial and some movies. Now hownyou differentiate between genuine and thugs.

Its simple if anyone asks you to give them money to make your card, he is a thug. There are so many strugglers around no known company or person would care to make a card for you.

In the recent incident some people ended up paying 50, 000 Rs for card. There is no card this expensive, these kind of thugs just take your money and disappear.

Punjabi films update till 8 march.

So punjabi film lovers the  much anticipated year of punjabi film has begun.

But it started with a full start because highly anticipated punjabi film "Saadi love story " nose dived the very first week of its release. Along with itself, film also took down Diljit and Dheeraj Ratan . The film was badly made story was totally wrecked, neetu singh was too heavy. The only winner here was surveen chawla.

Then came "tun mera 22 mein tera 22" , which was an average hit. But surely it sailed on tough sea of boxoffice. All kuddos to "yo yo honey singh" and binnu dhillon. Amarinder was not in his character, mandy was lovely for first time.

Gippy Grewal had hugely improved his acting skill , at least he respects the medium and money of producer as well as of audience. The result was 3 weeks and still running "love story of Singh vs Kaur". Surveen chawla shines through as next big face of punjabi films after a long time hold of neeru bajwa. The film is a blockbuster .

Movie "Sajjan" of Ks Makhan bombed at box office and it couldnt even generate opening of 3 lakh! !  Direction was one step ahead of word pathetic and acting is something Ks makhan should leave for others to do. We love you as a  ace singer no doubt.

Another movie that bombed the red and blue out of producers and it was First Punjabi Movie in 3D. "Pehchaan 3d" . Even though it will go down in history forever as first punjabi 3d movie, i am sure that is not enough for a producer. But guys even hindi cinema is yet to see a decent 3d release, heck hollywood itself is still experimenting to get the best of 3d , life of pi has shown new potentials , so how could you expect it to excite a film faternity who hasnt seen good cinema in years.

The last film to talk about is "Stupid 7". It didnt got a decent release , but its high time film makers respect the money an average man has to pay to watch a film. No matter what your subject if you cant shoot t properly, or give it film look why bother yourself and others . Why not release a vcd or dvd. Its high time to notice that you have to deliever to a certain standard and then expect to get your investment back.

I have no intention of hurting or insulting anyone . Its my personal viewpoint.

punjabi films are big ? yes and no
